Seven-Run Fourth Inning Lifts M-Braves Over Biscuits, 8-7

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mississippi Braves (50-63, 17-28) used a seven-run fourth inning to come from behind and beat the Montgomery Biscuits (61-55, 25-22), 8-7, on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Luke Waddell finished with another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with the go-ahead RBIs in the fourth inning. The M-Braves fell behind 5-0 when the Biscuits sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning. In the inning, Mississippi committed a pair of errors while starter Nolan Kingham (W, 3-1) walked two. Gianti Turner started the scoring with an RBI single, then two batters later, Dru Baker drove in a pair with a single. Baker scored on a ground out by Tanner Murray, and Junior Caminero scored on a Waddell throwing error.

Kingham was able to right the ship and give the M-Braves five important innings. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts in his fifth Mississippi start.

Waddell started and ended the fourth inning with a single. He opened the fourth inning with a single, and Jesse Franklin V followed by reaching on a Cole Wilcox walk. The walk extended Franklin's on-base streak to 31 games. Javier Valdes reached on an infield single to plate Waddell, and then Hendrik Clementina scored Franklin with a single to right-center. The Biscuits went to reliever Graeme Stinson, who had significant control issues. After a Hudson Potts sacrifice fly, he plunked the next three Mississippi batters, Drew Campbell, Cody Milligan, and Cal Conley. The final one forced home the fifth run. Waddell gave the M-Braves a 7-5 lead with a two-run single.

Landon Stephens took over for Campbell in the fifth inning and blasted a solo home run off the Riverwalk Stadium scoreboard to increase the lead to 8-5 in the sixth inning. He ended his night 2-for-2.

After the Biscuits scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning against Domingo Gonzalez, Hayden Harris took over and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Owens took over for Harris with two outs in the eighth and recorded the final four outs for his first Double-A save and second of his career. He struck out two and walked one over 1.1 innings.

Campbell, who was hit by a pitch twice, upped his on-base streak to 14 games on Wednesday.

The third game of the series is on Thursday night at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves have not announced their starter, while RHP Logan Workman (3-3, 3.53) will start for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
