Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Montpelier, Vt. - Seven different Vermont Mountaineers were named 2012 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Stars and will represent the Western Division in this weekend's festivities.

First baseman Rob Kelly, and pitcher Alex Haines were named starters for the West while catcher Austin Green, shortstop Cole Peragine, outfielder Johnny Mishu, third baseman Logan Pierce, and pitcher Casey Delgado also earned league honors as announced by the NECBL office on Monday morning.

Kelly (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Saint Anselm) currently leads the league in RBI with 34 and holds the Mountaineers single season as well as career records. He is also eight RBI shy of the leagues single season record set by Effrey Valdez in 2010 for the Lowell All-Americans.

Haines (Greensboro, Pa./Seton Hill) has been the most dominant pitcher in the league this summer posting a NECBL low 0.62 earned run average while striking out a league high 36 in 29 innings. The southpaw is also third in the league in wins with a 4-1 record.

Green (San Diego, Calif./San Diego) began the year as a catcher but has since moved to the outfield in order to keep his bat in the lineup. The backstop turned utility man is hitting .390 in just 13 games with four homeruns and 11 runs batted in. He has belted homers in three of his last four games.

Peragine (Belle Ewert, Ontario/Stony Brook) was a late arrival after helping lead the Seawolves to the College World Series but has built upon his impressive freshman year in the summer. The America East Rookie of the Year is hitting .325 with eight RBI while providing a stellar glove at shortstop.

Pierce (Troy, Ala./Troy) has proved his worth to Vermont by playing both corner spots on the infield while being a threat at the plate. His .329 average is third best on the squad while hitting three long balls and driving in 11 runs as well.

Mishu (Nashville, Tenn./Princeton) earned All-Star honors in his second year with the Mountaineers as a stalwart fielder and impressive baserunner. His two homers and 16 RBI have surpassed his 2011 summer total as he is also third in the NECBL in stolen bases, and second on the team, with 12.

Delgado (Miami, Fla./Austin Peay) is the number two starter in the rotation with a 1.96 earned run average. The righty has 22 strikeouts in 23 innings this summer after helping lead the Governors to their second straight Ohio Valley Conference title.

The 2012 NECBL All-Star Game will be held at Vermont's Montpelier Recreation Field on Sunday July 22, with gametime set for 6:30 p.m. Prior to the game there will be a skills competition organized by Major League scouts as well as a Home Run Derby with festivities beginnging at approximately 1:40 in the afternoon. It is the second time the Mountaineers are hosting the All-Star as the league's showcase visited the Captiol City in 2004.
