He also played for Team Canada Red at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Drafted in the fourth round, (97th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, McShane attended the Canadiens rookie camp immediately following the draft and their main camp in September before being returned to the Generals. The Collingwood, ON native finished his third Ontario Hockey League season with career best numbers appearing in 62 games recording 34 goals, 35 assists for 69 points.
On an international stage, McShane has played for Team Canada twice in his OHL career, first at the U17 Hockey Challenge suiting up with Team Canada Black earning a silver medal and leading the team in scoring.
