Seattle Sounders FC News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (3-3-2, 11 points) got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon, defeating LA Galaxy II (3-5-3, 12 points) by a score of 2-0 as Ray Serrano bagged his first two goals of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Serrano found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. A deflected ball in led to a scuffle right in front of goal and after a point-blank save by Galaxy II goalkeeper Justin Von Steeg, Serrano found the rebound for an easy tap in to put the Defiance up a goal. Less than ten minutes later, it was Serrano again who dribbled into the area and slotted a ball into the bottom left corner to double Tacoma's lead. Serrano almost completed a hat trick when a late shot flew over the crossbar, keeping the score at 2-0 until the final whistle.
Andrew Thomas recorded a shutout for Defiance in his first appearance for the club. The goalkeeper was acquired by Sounders FC last month and agreed to a USL Standard Loan this week.
Wade Webber's side now travels to Las Vegas for a rematch against the Lights FC on July 3. (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
