Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs will travel to Vancouver for games three, four and five this week with the Western Conference semi-final series tied at a game a piece. The Giants, who will get the last change at home, will host game three on Wednesday night at 7:00 with Mike Boyle calling the action on 1510 KGA.
Head Coach Bill Peters knows they won't be playing in front of friendly faces, but doesn't think that will be enough to change the x's and o's of the game, "We're not a team that is worried about match-ups. Our depth has allowed us to get offense from all four lines," he said.
The Giants picked up a 4-1 decision in game one on Friday night while Spokane turned the tables with a 4- 1 win on Sunday.
"We were disappointed, to a certain extent, in game one but we came back and played better in the areas that we were lacking in Sunday's game," Peters said.
"In this series, there have been a lot of good scoring chances generated. Now it comes down to who can execute on those opportunities. For us, an area of concern that needs to get better are the specialty teams."
Spokane is 1-11 on the power play in the first two games of the series.
Chiefs 20-year-old David Rutherford took advantage of the chances he was given in game two with a pair of goals, his second and third of the post-season. The Ladner, B.C. native gave Spokane a 1-0 lead in the first period and pushed the Chiefs back on top 43- seconds after Vancouver tied it up early in the third. Mitch Wahl and Levko Koper, who had a goal and assist, scored the final two goals of the game.
Four Chiefs have averaged a point a game in the first six games of the post-season including Rutherford (3- 3-6) and Mitch Wahl (3-4-7) who is the only Chief to tally a point in each game of the playoffs.
"This time of year your go-to guys have to be your best players. Your top end guys have to get it done on a consistent basis or it won't happen for you. "
Game four is Friday night at 7:30 with game five on Saturday at 7:00. Comcast Hockey Tonight will begin a half-an-hour before each game on 1510 KGA.
Games six and seven, if necessary, will be played in Spokane next Monday and Tuesday nights.
