Spokane Tops Vancouver 4-1

David Rutherford scored two goals and the Chiefs picked up a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Giants on Sunday night in game two of the Western Conference semi-finals evening the series at one game a piece. The series will now move to Vancouver for games three, four and five on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week.

The 20-year-old former Giant took an Ondrej Roman feed in front of Tyson Sexsmith, the Vancouver goaltender, and backhanded the puck in for his second goal of the playoffs. Levko Koper started the play by chipping a Giant clearing attempt from the boards to Roman in the right circle.

It took until the 4:20 mark of the third for Vancouver to tie the score when they tallied on their first power play of the game. Jonathan Blum blasted a one-timer in from Michal Repik and Brett Regner.

Rutherford scored the game winner at 5:03 with a wrister from the bottom of the right circle from Roman. Mitch Wahl made it 3-1 at 17:37 from Chris Bruton and Drayson Bowman before Levko Koper iced the game at 19:41 with an empty netter. Justin McCrae had an assist on the play.

Dustin Tokarski made 19 saves as Spokane outshot the Giants 31-20.

Wednesday night's game can be heard on 1510 KGA with Mike Boyle hosting Comcast Hockey Tonight at 6:30. Game time is scheduled for 7:00.
