Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that midfielder Sergio Oregel Jr., and defender Justin Reynolds were called to the U-19 U.S. Men's Youth National Team. Oregel Jr. and Reynolds will be reporting for a domestic camp, which will be taking place July 25-August 2, in Carson, California.
This will be Oregel's third appearance wearing the red, white, and blue, having represented the USMYNT most recently in June when he reported to the U-19 USMYNT international camp in Marbella, Spain. Oregel played in international friendlies at the Marbella Football Center's Dama de Noche pitches against England on June 6, 2022 where they won 2-1, then scoring a second-half goal in the 3-0 win against Norway on June 10, 2022.
Oregel has been a member of the organization since 2018, starting as a member of the Academy before signing a Homegrown deal with Chicago Fire FC on October 23, 2021. During his time with the Club, Oregel was the winner of the MLS NEXT U-19 Golden Ball, which is awarded to the best player of the tournament in each age division as a member of the Fire U-19 squad that won the inaugural MLS NEXT Cup on July 3, 2021. Additionally, Oregel has been a key contributor for Chicago Fire FC II this year, the MLS NEXT Pro side of the Club. He made his first team debut, starting and registering a full 90 minute appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup loss to Union Omaha on April 19, 2022.
For Reynolds, this will also be his third time representing the U.S. Men's Youth National Team, and his second time joining the U-19 roster under newly-appointed head coach Marko Mitrović. His first appearance was in January 2018, when he was called to the U.S. U-15 MYNT. His most recent appearance with the USMYNT took place on April 22-May 1 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, when he took part in a domestic camp that ran concurrently with the U-20 Men's Youth National Team camp.
Reynolds, 18, is a native of the South Loop of Chicago, and most recently signed a Homegrown deal with Chicago Fire FC on May 12, 2022 through 2026, with a Club option in 2027. Reynolds became the 24th Homegrown Player in Club history, and the 10th to sign with the Fire since January 2020. Reynolds has been a member of the Academy since he was 14, alongside his older brother and Chicago Fire FC midfielder, Andre Reynolds II. Like Oregel, he was a member of the Fire's U-19 squad that captured the U-19 MLS NEXT Cup in Frisco, Texas. He is now a member of Chicago Fire FC II, providing a steady presence in the backline.
