Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Montreal Canadiens have signed former Phantoms forward Jiri Sekac to a two-year NHL contract.

Hailing from Kladno, Czech Republic, Sekac skated with the Phantoms from 2009-2011, tallying 20 goals and 36 assists over 96 career games. He led the team in scoring during the 2010-11 season, amassing 45 points (18g, 27a) over 58 games. During his rookie season in 2009-10, Sekac totaled 11 points (2g, 9a) as the team missed the playoffs by just two standings points in its first year as a USHL member club.

The 22-year-old spent the past three seasons playing professionally in his home country of the Czech Republic with Lev Prague, a team in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He ranked second on the team in scoring this past season with 28 points (11g, 17a) over 47 games, plus added eight points (1g, 7a) in 21 playoff contests. In three professional seasons, Sekac has totaled 39 points (15g, 24a) in 130 games.

Sekac joins Andrej Sustr (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Scott Mayfield (New York Islanders) as the only former Phantoms to sign NHL contracts since the organization joined the USHL prior to the 2009-10 season.

Season tickets are on sale now for all Phantoms' home games at the Covelli Centre starting at the low price of $267. Call 330.747.PUCK (7825) for more information or to reserve seats today.
