Seattle Reign FC Announce 2016 Season Schedule

SEATTLE - Seattle Reign FC today announced its 2016 season schedule, which consists of 25 fixtures - ten National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) home matches, ten NWSL away matches, and one home international friendly. Seattle will also play four pre-season matches, including its annual Community Shield Match.

Within the 20-game NWSL regular season schedule, Reign FC will play eight NWSL clubs twice - each at home once and each away once. To round out the 20 games, Seattle will match up against the rival Portland Thorns FC four times, a pair of games at home and a pair away.

The 2016 NWSL regular-season home schedule includes only weekend dates: five Sunday matches and five Saturday matches. There are no conflicts with Seattle Sounders FC home matches. Reign FC will also play an international friendly match in 2016; the opponent and match details are expected to be announced in the near future.

The NWSL schedule was crafted to avoid league play during all FIFA dates, including a break during the Olympics that will run from August 1 through August 25.

Seattle will begin its fourth NWSL campaign on Sunday, April 17 at 4 p.m. PT as they play host to U.S. National Team midfielder Kelley O' Hara and Sky Blue FC in the season opener at Memorial Stadium. The two teams met twice in 2015, resulting in a tie in New Jersey and a Reign FC win in Seattle (1-1-0).

Seattle's first road test of the new season will be week two in Boston - Sunday, April 24 against the Breakers. Boston features a revamped roster, which now includes World Cup winning defender Whitney Engen.

Seattle returns home to host the 2015 NWSL Champions, FC Kansas City at Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 1. During the 2015 regular season campaign, Reign FC met FC Kansas City twice, splitting results 1-1 with each club winning on their home pitch. In the 2015 final, FC Kansas City notched a 1-0 victory over Seattle to win their second consecutive NWSL Championship. FC Kansas City lost midfielder Lauren Holiday to retirement and will be without forwards Amy Rodriguez and Sydney Leroux, both of whom will miss the 2016 season due to pregnancy.

U.S. National Team defender Meghan Klingenberg, midfielder Tobin Heath and Portland Thorns FC hit the Memorial Stadium pitch on Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. PT for the first of four matchups between the two clubs in 2016.

The second match of the home stand will be against Julie Johnston, Christen Press and the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. PT.

Seattle will wrap up the month of May on the road against the Portland Thorns on Sunday, May 29 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.

Returning home for the only home competition in June, Seattle will face Carli Lloyd, Morgan Brian and the Houston Dash on Sunday, June 12 at 4 p.m. PT.

Reign FC then hit the road for the rest of June with a matches against Sky Blue FC on Sunday, June 19 and the final regular-season matchup against Kansas City on Saturday, June 25 at Swope Soccer Village, in Kansas City, Mo.

On Saturday, July 2, the Boston Breakers will make their only appearance at Memorial Stadium. Seattle won all three fixtures against Boston in 2015, including a 3-1 win in Boston's final visit to Memorial Stadium.

Reign FC will travel to Rochester, NY to take on U.S. National Team midfielder Samantha Mewis and the Western New York Flash on Saturday, July 9 for a home-and-home matchup that concludes the following Saturday, July 16 with a 7 p.m. PT match at Memorial Stadium. The two teams played twice in 2015, with Seattle Reign FC taking points in both matches (1-0-1).

NWSL's most recent expansion team, Orlando Pride, will make its inaugural trip to Seattle for a match on Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m. PT at Memorial Stadium. Last October, Orlando Pride became the NWSL's tenth team and the third owned by a MLS club. Orlando features former US Women's National Team coach Tom Sermanni, U.S. National Team Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris and U.S. National Team forward Alex Morgan.

Seattle Reign FC will play their final match in July with a second trip to Providence Park in Portland, where Thorns FC will host Reign FC on Saturday, July 30.

Beginning Monday, August 1, the NWSL will take a four-week break while players around the league participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

After the break, Reign FC will host Portland Thorns FC at Memorial Stadium on August 27 at 2 p.m. PT for the last of four matchups between the two teams this season.

Seattle kicks off September with a two-game road series that begins on Sunday, September 4 against the Chicago Red Stars in Bridgeview, Ill., and wraps three days later on Wednesday, September 7 against the Washington Sprit.

Four days later, the Washington Spirit will travel to Seattle for Reign FC's final home regular season match of the 2016 season. Kickoff for the Sunday, September 11 match is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.

Reign FC will travel to Houston, Texas for their regular season finale against the Houston Dash on Sunday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. PT.

The back-to-back NWSL shield winning Seattle Reign FC topped the table in 2015 with a 13-3-4 regular season record and advanced to the NWSL final for the second consecutive year.

Led by two-time NWSL Coach of the Year Laura Harvey, Reign FC will welcome back 15 players from the 2015 squad, including 2015 NWSL Best XI selections Kim Little, Lauren Barnes, Jess Fishlock and Beverly Yanez, as well as 2015 NWSL Second Best XI selections Megan Rapinoe, Kendall Fletcher and Keelin Winters. 2015 CONCACAF Female Keeper of the year, 2015 Women's World Cup Golden Glove winner, 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Champion, and 2015 FIFPro World XI goalkeeper Hope Solo will also be returning to goal for Reign FC.

Players and coaches will report to training camp - sponsored by Health Warrior - on Monday, March 14. A full schedule for Reign FC's Health Warrior Training Camp, including open training information for the public and media, will be released in early March.
