Victoria Seals News Release

Calgary, AB - Trying for their third consecutive win, and third in the last four tries at Foothills Stadium, the Victoria Seals took to the field against the Calgary Vipers on Tuesday night. The home side turned to ace Joe Sergent (2-1) on the mound, while Victoria went with Isaac Hess (3-0) in a rematch of last week's 11-inning finale in Calgary.

Capitalizing on some big hits early on, the Seals took an early advantage in the top of the first inning. Using a lead-off double from Trevor Davidson, followed by walks to Sergio Pedroza and Jamar Hill, the Seals opened the scoring on a double from Josh Arhart - his fifth extra-base hit in his last six at bats at Foothills Stadium. Brian Rios would extend that lead with an RBI groundout moments later for a 3-0 Victoria lead through one inning.

The Seals would double that advantage in the third frame, after the game's lone error put Wilver Perez on base, a single from Pedroza put runners on the corners, and a double from Hill gave Victoria two in the inning. Capped off by another RBI from Rios, this time on a base hit, the Seals were out to a commanding 6-0 lead early on.

The Vipers would get one back in the bottom of the frame after Fehlandt Lentini singled, and eventually reached third base where he would steal home to break the Seals' shutout bid. Adding another run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 6-2, the Vipers got a close as they would get to a comeback in the seventh frame. Three consecutive two-out doubles from Rick Guarno, Dillon O'Krane and Lentini scored a pair to bring Calgary within two.

The Seals would get an insurance run back in the top of the eighth, however, when Bret LeVier cashed Brett Flowers with a club-record fifth double of the ballgame. Coming in to pull the Seals out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the bottom half of the frame, Javier Garcia picked up a pair of strikeouts in the ninth to give Victoria their third straight win, a 7-4 final over the Vipers.

Isaac Hess continues an excellent start to the season with his fourth win on the year, while Joe Sergent falls to 2-2 on the year with the loss. Jamar Hill led the way offensively again for Victoria, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's while Fehlandt Lentini picked up his league-leading 48th hit of the season in a losing effort for the Vipers.
