Armada Looking To Right The Ship In Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada -- The Long Beach Armada (10-13) takes on the Edmonton Capitals (16-13) again tonight. Both the Armada and Capitals have won a series against the other team on the road. Long Beach took two of three games in Edmonton in May, but the Capitals swept Long Beach at Blair Field last week. Jose Lima, a former National League All-Star in 1999 with the Houston Astros, pitched 8 innings in his last outing at Telus Field, giving up no earned runs and did not register a decision.

The Fleet will return to Blair Field on Friday, June 26 to kick off a three-game series against the rival Orange County Flyers in a rematch of last season's playoff series. The weekend series against Orange County will also feature lots of entertainment at Blair Field surrounding the games.

Armada Looking for Host Families

The Long Beach Armada is looking for additional HOST FAMILIES for the 2009 season.

The organization is looking for community members to host players through early September in exchange for season tickets and other exclusive perks.

The host family program is common throughout minor league baseball, and host families have played an important role in the success of the Long Beach Armada for the past four seasons.

While some players on the Armada's 2009 roster are local to Southern California, many come from out of state and need a place to live during training camp and the GBL season. Players are between 21-34 years old with previous playing experience from college to AAA. By placing players in the homes of fans, host families become an integrated part of the organization with a special insight on the team throughout the season.

Host families will receive four free full season reserved-level tickets and an invitation to an exclusive player/host family dinner.
