The Saint John Sea Dogs (31-16-1-3) ended their win streak at ten games after a loss to the Charlottetown Islanders (35-9-6-0) in Charlottetown on Thursday. Despite a strong effort from the Port City team, outshooting the Islanders 28-19, two goals from Philippe Daoust, and a goal each from Raivis Ansons and Ryan Francis were not enough to beat the top team in the QMJHL in the 6-4 loss on the road.

Nikolas Hurtubise started for Saint John, allowing 5 goals on 15 shots before being replaced by Thomas Couture at the beginning of the third period. Couture faced and stopped three shots in the third period. Francesco Lapenna got the start for the Islanders, stopping 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

The Islanders struck first with a goal from Brett Budgell 3:47 into the game. Charlottetown's top scorer Patrick Guay scored next, making it a 2-0 game at 14:40.

With 1:42 remaining in the first period, Raivis Kristians Ansons scored his 11th goal of the season and made the game 2-1 going into the second period.

Shots after the first were 8-4 for Saint John.

A double minor for high sticking to Charlie DesRoches sent the Sea Dogs to the first penalty kill of the night at 7:08. Jakob Brabanec scored on the power play and the Islanders took a 3-1 lead.

A penalty shot was awarded to former Sea Dog Dawson Stairs and he found the back of the net, making it 4-1 Charlottetown with 6:15 remaining in the period.

At 15:18, Josh Lawrence was sent off on a holding call. Philippe Daoust joined him in the box for interference and play went to 5-on-4 for Charlottetown with 4 minutes remaining in the period. With the extra room, Noah Laaouan fired a shot from the slot and put the Islanders up 5-1.

Patrick Leblanc was sent off at 17:20 on an interference call and play went to 4-on-4 briefly before Saint John got their first power play opportunity of the night. A cross crease pass from William Dufour to Ryan Francis, who tapped it into the net, made it 5-2 on the power play. They would go into the final frame at a three goal deficit.

Shots after 40 were 18-15 for Saint John.

At the beginning of the period, Thomas Couture replaced Nikolas Hurtubise in net to finish off the game.

At 5:09, Philippe Daoust picked up the puck in front of the net and ripped it past the goaltender to make it 5-3 and bring Saint John within 2.

A setup pass from Ryan Francis to Philippe Daoust, who was waiting at the top of the crease to tap it in for his second goal of the night, brought the Sea Dogs within one goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation play.

The Sea Dogs pulled Thomas Couture from the net to build the momentum and keep the pressure on the Islanders, but Brett Budgell was able to score his second of the night, sealing the deal on the 6-4 Islanders win.

Final shots were 28-19 for Saint John.
