The Saint John Sea Dogs (8-14-1-0) took to the ice for the first annual 'DK' night in support of the David 'DK' Kelly Memorial Bursary Fund, facing off against the fourth ranked team in the CHL, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens (16-5-2-0). The Sea Dogs fell to the Saguenéens 5-4 despite a late game offensive push.

Zachary Bouthillier got the start in net, stopping 37 of 42 shots on Friday evening.

The Sea Dogs started the game with jump, Josh Lawrence got a breakaway attempt early and Brady Burns tried to score with the rebound, but both shots were turned away by Chicoutimi goaltender Daniel Moody.

Saint John got the first power play opportunity of the game after Loris Rafanomezantsoa was sent off for interference at 2:25. Charlie DesRoches capitalized on the opportunity, collecting a pass from William Villeneuve at the blueline and sending it straight up the middle of the ice for the first goal of the game at 3:45.

The Saguenéens responded quickly, Félix-Antoine Marcotty tied the game up with a wrist shot from the top of the circle 18 seconds later.

At 6:13, Chicoutimi took the lead with a goal from Justin Ducharme. Félix-Antoine Drolet increased the lead to two with a goal at 8:23 from the side of the net.

The Saint John power play got another opportunity when Théo Rochette went to the box for high sticking at 15:09, but the Chicoutimi penalty kill was successful.

Saint John led in shots 15-12 after the first period.

Brady Burns scored 4:55 into the second period. Ben Badalamenti broke out of the defensive zone with speed, creating a two-on-one with Burns. Badalamenti passed the puck past the Chicoutimi defender and Burns sent a one-timer into the back of the net.

The Chicoutimi powerplay got their first chance of the game on a hooking call against Maxim Cajkovic at 7:03. Rafaël Harvey-Pinard scored 33 seconds into the power play.

Nicolas Guay received a hooking penalty at 9:29.

Jordan Spadafore and Justin Ducharme were called for delaying the game and to the box after shoving after the whistle and play went to four-on-four. Neither team scored with the extra room.

The Sea Dogs got a solid chance when Kale McCallum almost scored shortly after the penalties ended, but the net came off it's pegs, ending the play.

The shots were 27-26 for the Saguenéens at the end of the second period.

The Sea Dogs generated more offense in the third period, spending a lot of time in the Saguenéens zone, but were unable to get the puck past Daniel Moody in the first half of the period.

Ethan Crossman scored at 7:23 increasing the Chicoutimi lead to 5-2.

Chicoutimi's William Dufour went to the box for tripping at 7:52 and the momentum began to swing in the Sea Dogs' favour.

Ben Badalamenti scored at 11:36, breaking into the zone with speed and sending the puck over the goaltender's shoulder. The pressure kept building and Maxim Cajkovic scored at 13:13 bringing the Sea Dogs within one.

The momentum was undercut when Jérémie Poirier was sent to the box for hooking with 3:09 remaining, sending the Sea Dogs to the penalty kill.

The Sea Dogs called a time out with 1:08 remaining in the game and pulled Bouthillier but were unable to complete the comeback.

Shots at the end of the game were 42-37 for Chicoutimi.
