Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN - The official YouTube channel of the Saint John Sea Dogs is becoming among the most-watched channels in the country.
Sea Dogs TV, which has continued to grow since its launch in 2008, was recently listed on YouTube's Top 30 Canadian channels for views by reporters. The channel allows fans to view the latest in interviews, game highlights, and other in-game features as well as content associated with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Memorial Cup champions. In partnership with Merrill's Vision, Sea Dogs TV produces original content regularly and also scans the Internet for the best in Sea Dogs-related video content produced by media, fans and other teams.
This past weekend's videos were viewed more than 10,000 times, tops among Canadian Hockey League teams. Saturday's Night of Champions celebrations drew plenty of extra attention to the channel, but several highlight-reel plays in Friday's 6-3 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles stole the show .
In particular, a beautiful assist by Tomas Jurco at the 28-second mark was viewed extensively and shared on hockey websites around the world. Jurco is no stranger to YouTube fame. The slick Slovakian is a favourite of hockey fans and media for his jaw-dropping moves, some of which have garnered more than 200,000 views.
"Thanks to international stars like Tomas, and Stanislav Galiev, as well as the overall team's success, we have fans all over the world, said Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "We pride ourselves on using all avenues to reach and connect with those fans, and we are encouraged that the response has been so overwhelmingly positive."
Saint John (14-6) sits No. 2 in the BMO CHL Top 10 rankings and continues its four-game road swing with back-to-back dates in Baie-Comeau Friday and Saturday. The Drakkar (11-6) held the No. 2 spot in last week's Top 10, but fell all the way out of the rankings after a pair of losses. Friday's game is an 8:30 p.m. Atlantic Time start and Saturday's puck drop is at 5 p.m. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM . Fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast (click HERE to order; charges apply).
