Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, August 17, 2006 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have released 13 players from their training camp roster. There are now 47 hopefuls in camp.
"We have been very pleased with the product on the ice from the start of camp," said Bob "Tipper" LeBlanc, general manager of the Sea Dogs. "Generally speaking, everyone has shown up and competed hard, including the kids we have cut."
The following players have been released from camp:
Defense: Todd Cusack Pierre-Luc Fryer
Pat LeBlanc Cedric Paradis-Beaudoin
Forwards: Adam Donovan Kyle Isenor
Chris Ivanko Roman Crobar
Adam Laite Cody LeFrancois
Jerrett Paul Andrew Taylor
Dan Dooley
LeBlanc noted that several players, including Cusack, Donovan, Dooley, LeFrancois and Taylor, opted to leave camp early in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility. A player is disqualified from playing for an NCAA college in the United States if their tryout time at a major junior hockey camp exceeds 48 hours.
"A player who exercises his 48-hour option puts a lot of pressure on an organization to make a decision on their status," said LeBlanc. "Roster decisions are forced to be made even before the exhibition schedule begins. Unfortunately, the player would have to light it up for us to commit at this early stage of training camp."
The Sea Dogs open their pre-season home schedule at Harbour Station this Saturday (August 19) against the Lewiston MAINEiacs.
