SAINT JOHN, August 31, 2006 - Four more players from the Saint John Sea Dogs training camp have been released, leaving 26 vying for 23 positions with the hockey club.

Defenceman Jeff Grenier and left wing Mike Neil will be placed on waivers and could be claimed by other teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The waiver draft takes place next Wednesday (Sept. 6) at 4 p.m.

Two goaltenders, Karel St-Laurent and Matthew Dopud, will be reporting to Midget AAA teams in Quebec. St-Laurent will play for West Island while Dopud will suit up with Charles-Lemoyne.

General Manager, Bob "Tipper" LeBlanc, said it was particularly difficult to release Neil who played last season for the Sea Dogs.

"Mike worked very hard and came to camp ready," he said. "The difficulty here is that Mike is a 19-year-old. He knew there were younger players behind him with significant potential and that he had to convincingly win a spot on the top three lines. Mike realized that he had to elevate his game to the next level and give us something the younger players couldn't."

The Sea Dogs pre-season wraps up tomorrow (Sept. 1) when the 2006 QMJHL Champions Moncton Wildcats visit Harbour Station in a 7:30 p.m. start.
