Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN, Sept. 7, 2006 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have finalized their opening night roster. There are 24 players on the final list.

The club firmed up its roster today with the release of forwards Cory Battista, Bret McGinnis and Riley Lewis from training camp. Defencemen Jevin MacLellan and Jeff Grenier were claimed off waivers yesterday by the Gatineau Olympique.

"We will start the season with 24 players due to the injury situation and not knowing precisely when Flex Schütz will be returning from the Buffalo Sabre's rookie camp," said Bob "Tipper" LeBlanc, general manager of the Sea Dogs.

LeBlanc noted that Mike Neil, who was released last week, has been added to the Sea Dogs protected list. "Mike was not claimed off the waiver wire and as such will become an affiliate player," he said. It's expected Neil will play in the Maritime Junior "A" Hockey League.

Following is the Sea Dogs opening night roster:

Goal: Maxime Joyal Aaron Barton

Defence: Pascal Amyot Jean-Philippe Côté
Maxime Dubuc Alex Grant
Sébastien Rioux Yann Sauvé
David Stich

Forwards: Charles Bergeron Dave Bouchard
Chris Di Domenico Brett Gallant
Jonathan Laberge Alexandre Labonté
Tommy Lange Luc Melanson
Alexandre Monahan Olivier Painchaud
Felix Schütz Ryan Sparling
Mike Thomas Anthony Bergin
Shayne Tremblay

Opening night for the Sea Dogs is slated for Harbour Station next Friday (Sept. 15) with a 7:30 p.m. face-off against the Rimouski Oceanic. The Sea Dogs will then entertain the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday (Sept. 17) in a 4 p.m. start.

Tickets are on sale for both upcoming weekend and remaining regular season games. They can be purchased at the Harbour Station Box Office and the Imperial Theatre. Fans can also call 657-1234 or toll-free 1-800-267-2800.
