Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
Forward Dawson Stairs has been called up from South Kent Selects Academy.
The 16-year-old native of Fredericton was ranked 26th overall going into the 2018 QMJHL Draft but was selected by the Sea Dogs in the 7th Round due to NCAA intentions.
He has 45 points in 30 games this season at Selects Hockey Academy.
"I have been waiting for this moment since the summer" said Stairs. "It's amazing that it's finally here. This is where I want to be. I have been working out and skating with the team and the coaching staff this week. Everyone has been great to me. It's a big jump to play Major Junior for sure, but it's exciting to be part of this young group and I want to win here."
Stairs will make his QMJHL debut tonight at Harbour Station against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He will also play in both home games this weekend, Friday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs and Saturday against the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
Sea Dogs Head Coach Josh Dixon is looking forward to seeing Stairs play at this level. "Dawson has been waiting for this moment since he left in September. He showed up to camp ready to work and really impressed us with his skill. He's had a great start to the season in South Kent and we're excited to see what he can add to our lineup."
