Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach/General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced today that for the remainder of the 2008-2009 season, veteran defenseman David Stich will serve as Team Captain.
"We're very pleased to be naming David as our captain for the rest of the season," said Beaulieu. "He is an outstanding young athlete with tremendous leadership abilities and his performance this year has been nothing short of sensational."
Stich, 19, was named an Alternate Captain on October 28, 2008, and donned the 'C' for Team Czech Republic at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships. The 6'2", 215 lb. defenseman was originally selected by Saint John in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2006 CHL Import Draft.
In 154 career QMJHL games, Stich has tallied 12G-38A-50P to go along with 245 PIM. Currently leading all Sea Dogs blue-liners in goals this season with eight, Stich has attended two NHL training camps thus far in his career (Dallas Stars, 2007 and New York Rangers, 2008).
The Sea Dogs next hit the ice on Saturday night for a 7pm game against the Gatineau Olympiques. Tickets to this match can be obtained by calling the Harbour Station Box Office at (506) 657-1234.
