Sea Dogs Continue Road Streak with 6-2 Win over Wildcats

The Saint John Sea Dogs (12-8-3-1) racked up their fifth straight road win on Tuesday night at the Avenir Centre in a 6-2 win over the Moncton Wildcats (8-11-2-1). A pair of power play goals from William Villeneuve and Brady Burns, and three assists from Nicholas Girouard were the difference as the Sea Dogs picked up the win in their first of four games on the schedule this week.

Noah Patenaude started in goal for Saint John, while the Sea Dogs got their first glimpse at 17-year-old rookie Vincent Filion in the Wildcats' net.

It only took 14 seconds for the Wildcats to get on the board as Nicolas Pavan scored his first in the QMJHL off a seeing eye shot from the point.

The Sea Dogs stabilized and scored a power play marker at 9:45 when William Villeneuve released a heavy shot from the blueline for his second of the season.

Moncton would retake the lead with under five to play in the first as Connor Richard came streaking down the right side and tucked the puck past Patenaude.

Saint John led shots in the period 14-9 but trailed 2-1 on the scoreboard.

After a sloppy opening 10 minutes to the second period from both sides the Sea Dogs found their footing. Burns fed Poirier at the point and the Calgary Flames prospect hammered home his seventh goal of the season, his 100th career point in the QMJHL.

Less than two minutes later Ryan Francis held the puck in the slot before releasing a shot on Filion who made the initial stop before Peter Reynolds knocked in the rebound for his ninth of the year and the Sea Dogs' first lead of the game.

Owen Stammer opened the third period by lifting the puck over the glass and was served a delay of game penalty. On the ensuing power play Brady Burns completed a one-timer for his ninth of the year, extending the Saint John lead to 4-2.

Minutes later Charles Savoie was hauled down on a breakaway and driven hard into the corner boards. He was slow to get up and was nursing his shoulder as he headed to the dressing room. He did not return to the game.

With under four minutes to play, Ryan Francis found Vladislav Kotkov from behind the net and Kotkov picked a corner for his seventh of the campaign. Burns would add another, his second of the game at 18:11. The goal was initially waved off during the play but after review it was deemed a good goal. The final score in Moncton, 6-2 Sea Dogs.

Burns finished with two goals and an assist while his line mate Nicholas Girouard had three assists. The line of Burns, Lawrence and Girouard was continuously creating chances and kept the Wildcats on their heels for most of the game.

Patenaude made 24 stops for his sixth win of the year, Filion had 31 saves in the loss.

The Sea Dogs will have a day's rest before hitting the road to take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Thursday night at 7PM. Saint John returns home on Friday at 7PM for a rematch with the Wildcats at TD Station. Fans can use their tickets from February 6th, 2021 for that game.
