
Sea Dogs Blast Five Home Runs in Series Finale

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (9-6) offense led the way with five home runs in a series-ending 13-5 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-10) on Sunday at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
Binghamton got onto the scoreboard first in the top of the first against Sea Dogs starter Josh Taylor, who was on a Major League Baseball rehab assignment. Jake Mangum led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ronny Mauricio drove him in with a base hit to left, giving them the lead 1-0. In the next at-bat, Luke Ritter doubled, scoring Mauricio, and pushing the lead to 2-0.
It was a powerful first inning for the Sea Dogs, scoring eight runs against Rumble Ponies starter Mitch Ragan. After the first three batters reached base, Pedro Castellanos cleared the bases with a grand slam, handing Portland a 4-2 lead. Kole Cottam made it back-to-back homers with his first long ball of the season, extending their lead, 5-2. Later, Hudson Potts hit a two-run homer, making it 7-2. Christian Koss capped off the inning with a solo bomb, finishing the first inning with an 8-2 lead.
The Rumble Ponies drove in another run in the second with Sea Dogs pitcher Jay Groome on the bump. With one out, Manny Rodriguez hit a solo homer to left. It was his second homer of the season and brought the score to 8-3. They added another run in the fourth on a Matt Winaker RBI double, making it 8-4.
The bats came alive again in the bottom of the fifth for Portland, plating four more runs, this time against Binghamton reliever Justin Lasko. Cottam and Cameron Cannon led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Wil Dalton doubled, scoring both, increasing their lead to 10-4. Koss scored Dalton on a base hit and Granberg drove in Koss with a single, pushing the Sea Dogs' lead to 12-4.
Both teams were able to create more offense in the seventh inning. The Rumble Ponies scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Johneshwy Fargas, bringing the score to 12-5. Portland responded with a home run from Dalton, his second of the year, keeping the Sea Dogs in the lead 13-5. Portland's pitching staff held Binghamton scoreless over the last two frames, wrapping up the series with a 13-5 victory.
Groome (1-0) tossed 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out five, and walking two in his first win of the year. Ragan (0-1) finished just 0.2 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, walking one, and striking out one in his first loss of the season.
The Sea Dogs enjoy a league-wide off-day on Monday before starting a six-game series on Tuesday on the road against the Somerset Patriots with a 6:35 PM ET first pitch.
