Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn. - Six days after Yard Goats' starter Karl Kauffmann threw six no-hit innings against Somerset, Jhony Brito twirled five scoreless innings of his own as the Patriots beat Hartford, 9-1, in front of a third-straight sellout at Dunkin Donuts Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots' first six hitters reached base in the top of the first. Anthony Volpe raced home on a wild pitch, Brandon Lockridge came around on a fielder's choice and Josh Breaux scored on an error to make it 3-0. Kauffmann then induced an inning-ending double play and set down the next six Somerset hitters.
In both the fourth and fifth, the Patriots put the first two hitters aboard. First, Blake Perkins continued his torrent stretch with a 2-RBI double to right to make it 5-0. An inning later, Dietrich doubled to deep left with two outs and tacked on two more runs for the Yankees' affiliate.
Inheriting the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the sixth, Riley Pint struck out the first two hitters he faced and only allowed one more run across. Reliever Michael Baird followed to strike out another three in three innings of work. Perkins was the lone hit against Baird, a long home run to right to cap the scoring for Somerset. The former Nationals' No. 14 prospect was nine-for-19 with two doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBIs in the series, upping his Eastern League-leading OPS to 1.324.
In the eighth inning, Hannah ripped a double to left center to snap a string 15-straight Hartford hitters retired by Somerset pitching. It was his second of the series and third of the season, upping the former A's second-round pick's average to .308 this year. An inning later, Brenton Doyle's RBI groundout scored Coco Montes to put Hartford on the board.
The Yard Goats (7-8) head to Harrisburg to play six with the Senators (9-5) starting Tuesday, April 26 (6:00 ET) at FNB Field. RHP Mitch Kilkenny will start for Hartford, and RHP Ronald Herrera will go for Harrisburg. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
