Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, Sept. 12, 2006 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have named veteran Charles Bergeron as team captain for the upcoming season. Jonathan Laberge will serve as a full-time assistant captain.
In addition, four other players - Ryan Sparling, Sebastién Rioux, Jean-Philippe Côté and Felix Schütz - will share assistant captain duties throughout the year.
"We were looking for someone to step up in a leadership role," said head coach Jacques Beaulieu. "With 28 days of training camp behind us, Bergie stood out. Our younger players respect him a lot."
Beaulieu said the purpose of four rotating assistant captains is to involve the youth on the team. "You can't just have your 20-year-olds with letters and the next year have no one in a position of leadership," he said. "You have to have leaders for the future."
Opening night for the Sea Dogs is slated for Harbour Station this Friday night (Sept. 15), with a 7:30 face-off against the Rimouski Oceanic. The Sea Dogs will then entertain the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday (Sept. 17) in a 4 p.m. start.
Tickets are on sale for both upcoming weekend and remaining regular season games. They can be purchased at the Harbour Station Box Office and the Imperial Theatre. Fans can also call 657-1234 or toll-free 1-800-267-2800.
