Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs have acquired Benjamin Gagné from the Québec Remparts in exchange for an 8th round pick in the 2021 draft.
"We are pleased to add Benjamin Gagné to our team. Gagné is a puck moving defenceman, former captain of the Remparts, and has lots of experience in the League", said Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. "With the transaction of Nathan Larose earlier this month, we felt it important to bring some added experience to the blueline to support our young group."
Gagné is expected to be in the lineup Sunday as the Sea Dogs host the Moncton Wildcats at Harbour Station at 2pm and is excited to play in the Port City.
"I'm glad to be a Sea Dog and I'm really excited about this new opportunity to finish my junior career."
The addition of Gagné means the Sea Dogs are now over the league limit of three overagers. Georgie has said the team will look for other options for overage forward Anthony Boucher.
"We are doing our best to accommodate Anthony's wishes to finish his Major Junior career closer to home. Anthony is a smart, hardworking, and very focused young man. We appreciate his time and contributions here as a Sea Dog. He has been a positive influence on our young players, most notably his billet brother Will Villeneuve."
With Boucher leaving the team, Sea Dogs Head Coach Josh Dixon announced overage defenceman Michael Campoli has been named the new Sea Dogs Captain.
"Michael is a natural leader who has a wealth of experience in the game of hockey that has been of tremendous impact already in his leadership role with our young team," said Dixon. "He brings both a vocal and a lead by example leadership style and is a consummate professional in his attitude, habits and preparation. He has already made a tremendous impact on our team as our top D man and we look for that impact to continue as Captain."
Campoli joined the Sea Dogs in the summer of this year after his rights were acquired from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in a trade during the 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft. The overage defenceman had previously played for Boston College in the NCAA and for the U.S. National U18 Team. In 35 games with the Sea Dogs he has two goals and ten assists for 12 points.
