Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, October 2, 2006 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have obtained 20-year-old defenceman David MacDonald from the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for an 8th round pick in the 2007 QMJHL Entry Draft.
The six-foot, 186-pound native of Baddeck, Nova Scotia, played last season for both the Wildcats and the PEI Rocket. He was acquired by Moncton from PEI on January 3, 2006.
MacDonald has collected two assists as well as two penalty minutes in five games for the Wildcats this season. In 60 games in 2005-06, MacDonald had two goals and 10 assists with 90 penalty minutes.
"David joined the Wildcats just after Christmas last year and played very well in the second half of the season and in the playoffs," said Bob "Tipper" LeBlanc, general manager of the Sea Dogs. "He's a good, stay-at-home defenceman who plays a tough game. He does the little things well."
LeBlanc noted that the Sea Dogs are now carrying five 20-year-olds - one more than permitted by the QMJHL. "A decision on which we release from our roster will be made shortly," he said.
Meantime, the Sea Dogs have re-assigned left wing Luc Melanson to the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League. Melanson, 18, had no points in seven games with Saint John this season.
The Sea Dogs next home game is this Friday night when they entertain Halifax in a 7:30 o'clock start. Moosehead Breweries will be the game sponsor. Fans who wear Moosehead/Alpine clothing to the game will be eligible to win great prizes.
