SUGAR LAND, Texas - Travis Scott matched the all-time Sugar Land Skeeters home run record in a 5-2 loss to Camden on Friday evening at Campbells Field. The loss is the Skeeters third-straight setback and moves the record to 20-28 in the second half and 56-62 overall.
First baseman Travis Scott made Skeeters history in the top of the eighth, launching a ball into orbit to tie teammate, Delwyn Young's all-time home run record for Sugar Land. Following a one-out single from Jeff Dominguez, Scott blasted Steve Garrison's first offering to right for a two-run bomb. The third-year Skeeters member matched Young's mark of 29 in the Blue and Gold to narrow the score to 5-2.
Camden tagged Skeeters starter Josh Geer for four early runs in the bottom of the first. Following a leadoff groundout, Paddy Matera and Brandon Chaves logged back-to-back singles before a bases-clearing double from Carlos Guzman broke the scoring seal, 2-0. Daniel Rockett picked up an RBI single to score Guzman and went first-to-third on a single off the bat of Eric Frain. With two outs, Frain stole second, but an errant throw from catcher Chris Wallace allowed Rockett to trot home and increase the lead to 4-0.
Geer would settle into the game and put up four-straight scoreless innings before being chased with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Frain lifted a one-out double into the alley and came home to score on a base-knock from Mike Kerns. The Skeeters right-hander took his sixth loss since the All-Star break to move to 5-7 on the year.
James Parr and Andrew Carpenter stymied the Riversharks over the final two innings to hold the score, but aside from Scott's home run, the Skeeters did not manufacture any offense. The duo combined to strike out seven in 2.2 innings.
