Scorpions take wild one

YUMA, Ariz. - A nearly four-hour marathon ended with the Yuma Scorpions defeating the St. George RoadRunners 13-8 Wednesday night in front 726 fans at Desert Sun Stadium.

Scorpions shortstop Jordan Prado was the star of the night. He led off the game with a home run and followed that with a three-run double that put the game away in the bottom of the seventh inning. Overall, he was 3 for 3 and drove in five runs.

The game was sloppy, lasting 3 hours, 45 minutes, featuring 15 walks and 11 errors.

Yuma held an early 5-2 lead before the RoadRunners came charging back to tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning after a three-run frame.

The Scorpions claimed the lead for good with two runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.

Maikel Jova and Mike Goss each had two hits for Yuma and Henry Calderon had two RBIs.

St. George was led by Steven Wright's 2-for-4 evening which included a two-run home run and a double.

Geoff Wagner hit his ninth long ball of the season while Brett Flowers was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.

Aaron Wilson pitched a scoreless inning to get the win for the Scorpions. St. George reliever Malido Dotel got the loss after giving up two runs.

Yuma (31-20, 11-3) stays a game behind Long Beach (35-17, 12-2) in the second-half standings after the Armada defeated the Chico Outlaws 5-2.

Game No. 4 of the Scorpions-RoadRunners series is at 7:15 p.m. tonight at Desert Sun Stadium.
