June 26, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release
The Yuma Scorpions were once again able to get things going early on Wednesday in St. George, scoring over half their runs in the first three innings of the game.
Wednesday's game pitted Yuma Starter, Jorge Perez against St. George Starter, and former Yuma Scorpion, Aaron Wilson.
Jorge Perez led the way for the Scorpions going 6 strong innings, only allowing 2 runs to cross the plate while scattering 6 hits and only 2 walks. He also stuck out 7 batters in route to the Scorpions win.
The entire Scorpions offense had a decent showing, getting at least one hit out of every Scorpion batter. Jose Rodriguez had the big hit for the Scorpions, a three run home run, which would be the most in both categories for the Scorps. Hector Bernal also went 4 for 4 on the night and scored 3 times. The only Scorpion not to touch home was Rich Janeway, who still had a hit and an RBI for the team.
The Roadrunners did not fair as well as the Scorpions in both pitching and batting. Aaron Wilson went 5 innings, giving up 9 runs in the process on 14 hits. The bright spot for Wilson in the game was that he didn't walk a single Scorpion batter.
Offensively, the Roadrunners weren't able to score more than two runs in an inning, and being limited to only 2 runs in the first 6 innings. The Roadrunners were able to get to James Garcia, who got the save for the Scorpions. Garcia allowed 4 runs to cross the plate in the final three innings of the game. The top of the lineup led the way for the Scorpions. Ryan Stevenson went 3 for 5 and scored two runs, and Cody Nowlin went 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run.
The Scorpions and Roadrunners will part ways for 4 days after playing a total of 6 games straight against each other. They will start another series in El Centro and Yuma next Tuesday. The Scorpions open a 4 game series with the on fire, Orange County Flyers, on Friday, June 27th at 7 pm.
