Yuma Scorpions News Release

ST. GEORGE, Utah ? Brett Flowers? two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning led to the St. George RoadRunners defeating the Yuma Scorpions 10-9 Monday night at Bruce Hurst Field.

The Scorpions (40-30, 19-13) led 5-0 after the top of the first inning, but from that point the RoadRunners offense ws just too much.

St. George got 17 hits, including a game-high four from Cody Nowlin, who drove in three runs, scored three times and hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

Yuma?s loss, coupled with the win of the Long Beach Armada (47-23, 24-8), pushes the Scorpions to five games back in the second-half standings with just six games left to play.

Yosvany Almario led Yuma with a 4-for-4 evening that included three RBIs and a run scored.

His RBI double in the seven inning capped off a three-run seventh inning to give the Scorpions a 9-8 lead.

The one-run cushion wasn?t enough as Steve Soja (6-5) got the loss in relief after allowing two runs on five hits in three innings.

Starter Evan White was roughed up by St. George, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, both season lows for the right-hander.

RoadRunners starter Danny Silvas pitched well after allowing five runs on three hits in the first inning. The right-hander pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits.

Scorpions catcher Jose Rodriguez hit a home run in the second straight game, part of his 2-for-4, four RBI game.
