GBL Players of the Week

August 21, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release

(Dublin, CA. August 21, 2007) The Golden Baseball League announced today that Chico Outfielder Daniel Nava and Orange County reliever Trevor Caughey have been named Player and Pitcher of Week 10. Sponsored by Spalding Baseball, these weekly awards recognize the most outstanding position player and pitcher in the league each week.

Nava, 24, is a rookie out of Santa Clara University where he led the tough West Coast Conference in hitting in his senior year as he posted a .395 average. The outfielder was the dominant force in the GBL last week as he hit for a .619 average and also led the league in hits, runs, home runs, slugging average, and on-base percentage. During the week he extended his now 18 game hitting streak and climbed to the top of the GBL Batting Leaders as he raised his season average to .380.

Trevor Caughey, 24, was drafted in the 9th round by the Baltimore Oriole in the 2003 amateur draft. The lefty pitched five years in their system reaching the high-A Frederick Keys in the Carolina League. Last season he pitched for Chico and then spent some time in the United League early this year. Joining Orange County during the second half he has been the stopper in the bullpen they were lacking. Winning pitcher of the week honors last week, he appeared in three games and gave up no runs while striking out 8 and walking only 1.
