New Mexico Scorpions News Release

SCORPIONS RECAP –

COLORADO 7, SCORPIONS 4 – Colorado scored three goals in a 1:18 span early in the second period to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 7-4 win over the Scorpions on Wednesday. The Scorpions narrowed the gap to 4-3 before the Eagles scored two more goals. Mike Oliveira and Peter Ambroziak each had a goal and an assist while Mike Possin chipped in two helpers. Brian Barker and Shawn Legault also scored while Miguel Beaudry made 43 saves.

ODESSA 5, SCORPIONS 4 – Odessa scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5-4 win over the Scorpions on Friday. Odessa led 2-0 in the first period before the Scorpions came back to take a 3-2 lead on a pair of power play goals just 1:19 apart early in the second. Peter Ambroziak, Clint Wensley, Jeff Cameron and Shawn Legault all scored for the Scorpions, who were 3-for-4 on the power play. Danny Lorenz made 20 saves in goal for New Mexico.

WICHITA 1, SCORPIONS 0 – Adam Calder scored what proved to be the game's only goal at 8:05 of the second period to lift Wichita to a 1-0 win over the Scorpions on Saturday at Tingley Coliseum. The Scorpions' penalty kill came up big with a 5-for-5 performance, including thwarting a 5-on-3 disadvantage for a full two minutes late in the first period. Daniel Tetrault missed a chance for the equalizer when he hit the crossbar with 2:35 left in the third. Miguel Beaudry was the hard-luck loser despite stopping 31 of 32 shots while Nathan Grobins made 22 saves for the shutout.

SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS –

LUBBOCK – The Scorpions have won five straight against the Cotton Kings but Lubbock is coming off one of their best weeks of the season after losing on Friday 3-2 to Laredo on a goal late in the third period before beating Odessa 3-1 on Saturday. Paul Fioroni leads the Cotton Kings in scoring with 40 points (9g-31a). Rookie Anders Strome is next with 37 points (16g-21a) while veteran Dave MacIntyre is just behind with 36 points (19g-17a). Goalie Jeremy Symington is 8-14-6 on the season with a 3.36 GAA. Lubbock allows just under four goals per game, which is last in the league. They are also last on the penalty kill at 79.8 percent. This week's three games are the last three between the two clubs this season. The Scorpions are 5-1-1 this season against the Cotton Kings.

ODESSA – The Scorpions look for redemption as they head to Odessa for the first time this season on Friday. The Jackalopes went 1-2 on the week as they lost 3-1 at Lubbock on Saturday. All-Star Sebastien Thinel leads the Jackalopes with 19 goals and 46 points while Mike Rutter is just behind with 44 points (17g-27a) for the team that is tied league's worst offense at 2.4 goals per game with Rio Grande Valley. However, Odessa leads the way with 35.9 shots per game. Goalie Mike Gorman is 6-9-0 with a 2.85 GAA and .915 save percentage since rejoining the team just after the holidays. The teams meet one more time after Friday, on March 9 at Odessa.

NOT AGAIN – Saturday's 1-0 final score was the third time this season that the Scorpions have seen such an outcome, and the third time that Miguel Beaudry has been in goal. Beaudry recorded his first pro shutout with a 1-0 shootout win over Oklahoma City on Jan. 3 before coming up on the short end at Indianapolis on Jan. 11 and on Saturday. Five of the six 1-0 finals in Scorpions history have come since Jan. 18, 2003, when the Scorpions beat Odessa 1-0 in overtime.

STINGERS – The Scorpions are 10-6-1 against the Southwest Division this season which included seven straight wins until Friday's loss to Odessa... Peter Ambroziak had his six-game goal-scoring streak ended on Saturday while Mike Oliveira's six-game point streak was ended on Friday... Friday's game was just the tenth time this season that the Scorpions had outshot an opponent... Strangely, they are 4-5-1 in those games... Beginning with last Friday's game against Odessa, the Scorpions play six straight games against teams that Pat Stachniak has previously played for in the CHL (Odessa, Wichita and Lubbock)... With 22 goals in 39 games this season, Ambroziak has surpassed the 20 tallies he totaled in 52 games a year ago.
