Scorpions Creep By

July 11, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

In a pitchers duel last night at Peccole Park in Reno, the Yuma Scorpions (23-18) creeped by with a 3-1 win over the Reno Silver Sox (16-24), stopping the Silver Sox from sweeping the series.

Starting pitcher Kevin Frederick (1-2) pitched a great game against the Scorpions pitcher Mike Esposito (4-2), but Esposito was too much for the Silver Sox offense. Frederick pitched eight innings, allowing two runs off seven hits, striking out four, and walking two, in an impressive outing for the Silver Sox starter. Closing out the game for the Silver Sox was righty Mitch Arnold. Arnold allowed one run off one hit.

The Silver Sox couldn?t bring in the runs tonight as 2B Doug Sanders was the sole Silver Sox batter to knock in a run when he hit a sacrifice ground out to the Scorpions shortstop Ryan Barba to bring in the only run of the night. 1B Ryan Brown had a successful night against Esposito and the Scorpions pitching staff as he went three for four with no RBIs and the only Silver Sox run.

The Silver Sox head to Long Beach to take on the Armada before the All-Star Break and don?t return to Peccole until July 22 when the take on the Armada in a three game series in the first home stand of the second half of the season.

Look for some great upcoming promotions including Two for Tuesday, the continuation of the Reno Silver Sox Mustache Growing Contest, Family Night, and Archie?s Fan Night.
