Calgary Vipers News Release

Due to rain at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta the Golden Baseball League game between the Calgary Vipers and the Edmonton Cracker-Cats has been suspended until Saturday July 12th at 5:05 PM (MDT). The game will be resumed with Calgary leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chris Van Rossum on at first base, no outs, and Orlando Miller at the plate. The two teams will play this game all nine innings and then after a 30 minute break play a seven inning game for the regularly scheduled affair.

Calgary got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with Drew Miller being hit by a pitch for a league high 14th time and Patrick Arlis singling. Travis Drader moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Colin Moro and Darryl Brinkley both hit run batted in singles for the 2-0 lead.

Former Viper Jose Morban cut the lead in half with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning.

Two more runs were added by the Snakes in the top of the third inning as Felix Jose crushed his 11th long ball of the season and after a Arlis doubled, Drader made the score 4-1 with a RBI base hit.

Back came the Cracker-Cats once again in the bottom of the inning starting with a controversial single off the bat of Marcus Nettles which looked to be caught in center field on a slide by Moro. Ruddy Yan doubled for a RBI and he later scored on a Joe Jiannetti RBI base knock to cut the lead to 4-3.

The game went into a rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning at 8:30 PM (MDT) and it was called at 10:00 PM (MDT).

Once the resumed game concludes Nate Melek (2-2) will start the now seven inning game. Sunday July 13th at 1:35 PM (MDT) the three game series concludes with Ryan Schurman (1-3) toeing the rubber..

On Tuesday July 15th Snakes' Manager Mike Busch will lead the 20-man Golden Baseball League All-Star squad as they take on the United League's All-Stars in a battle of two of the top independent leagues in San Angelo, Texas. Joining Busch from the Vipers will be ace and pitching coach Evan Greusel and left fielder Drew Miller. Veterans Darryl Brinkley and Felix Jose have received permission from the GBL to miss Tuesday's All-star game to rest minor injuries and allow younger players a chance to play in the game.

The Snakes return home to Foothills Stadium Friday July 18th at 7:05 PM (MDT) for "Paint the Park Pink" weekend. Friday's game will open a six day home stand which will feature seven games against the Chico Outlaws and the Yuma Scorpions.
