Yuma Scorpions News Release
CHICO, Calif. -- Behind the pitching of Derrick Loop, the Chico Outlaws extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 win over the Yuma Scorpions on Tuesday night.
The Scorpions dropped to 12-8 with their sixth straight loss of the season, all on the road. Roger Luque (1-1) was impressive on the mound for Yuma despite the loss, allowing three runs on 11 hits in seven innings.
The two pitchers battled pitch for pitch until the bottom of the inning when the Outlaws ran off three runs, giving them the cushion they needed to get their 11th (11-7) win of the season.
Jesse Kovacs knocked in Jacob Ferris with a single and then Scott Dragicevich drove in Eric Pringle and Kovacs on a two-run single, giving Chico a 3-0 lead after five innings.
Yuma cut the lead to 3-1 on an RBI single from Gabriel Mayorga, scoring Yosvany Almario, but it was all the visitors could muster.
Loop (4-1) struck out four and gave up just five hits in seven innings.
Chico scored an insurance run in the eighth inning, as Todd Gossage scored on an RBI groundout by Brock Ungricht.
The two teams wrap up their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. as Evan White (0-0, 6.00 ERA) and Phil Springman (1-0, 6.52) make the starts for Yuma and Chico, respectively.
All of the action can be heard on yumascorpions.com as well as SportsRadio KBLU 560 AM in Yuma.
