The Outlaws notched their sixth consecutive win with a 4-1 victory over the Yuma Scorpions. Chico starting pitcher Derrick Loop won his fourth straight appearance to take the GBL lead in wins while improving to 4-1 on the season.
The Outlaws offense notched 11 hits, all singles, to provide all the offense Loop needed. John Jefferson pitched a scoreless 8th and Todd Gelatka closed the game out for his league-leading sixth save.
The top three hitters in Chico's line-up had two hits apiece and newcomer Jacob Ferris went 2-for-4 in his professional debut for the Outlaws. Daniel Nava stretched his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the first inning.
Yuma's third baseman Yosvany Almario had three of the Scorpions six hits and is 5-for-7 in the series while the rest of the team is 5-for-55 against Outlaws pitching. The Scorpions were hitting .316 as a team going into the series in Chico.
Loop lowered his ERA to 3.91 while allowing just one run in seven strong innings. Loop walked four and struck out four and picked a runner off first base.
The Outlaws close out the series with the Scorpions Wednesday at Nettleton Stadium as Yuma tries to avoid being swept for the second straight series after starting the season on a 12-2 tear. Chico then faces Orange County in a four-game series at Nettleton Stadium.
