Scorpions can't stop Flyers

FULLERTON, Calif. - Sparked by 11 runs over the course of three innings, the Orange County Flyers defeated the Yuma Scorpions 14-5 Friday night in Fullerton.

The Scorpions led 5-3 going into the sixth inning before the Flyers took control of the game.

Orange County designated hitter Peanut Williams hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the game, including an opposite field shot that cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth.

Later in the inning, center fielder Garry Templeton II beat out a fielder?s choice which scored Buddy Morales tying the game followed by Brett Thomas scoring the lead run after Hector Bernal?s throw got away from first baseman A.J. Valentine.

Scorpions starter Roger Luque was then taken out after allowing nine hits, six runs, three earned, resulting in his fifth (5-5) loss of the season.

The Flyers (31-30, 12-11) jumped on the Yuma bullpen in the next two innings, scoring three runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth.

The eighth inning was highlighted by Williams? three-run home run well over the left center-field wall.

Orange County outhit Yuma 17-8 as seven Flyers hitters at least had two hits. Williams led the team, going 3 for 4.

The Scorpions were led by Maikel Jova?s 3-for-4 night which included three RBIs and a run scored.

Yuma (37-24, 16-7) stayed two games back of first place Long Beach (41-20, 18-5) as the Armada fell to the Reno Silver Sox 5-3.
