New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions went up early and hung on late for a 4-2 victory over the Rage Saturday night. The loss was only the second of the season in regulation for Rocky Mountain, both to the Scorpions.
Just like the last time these two teams met, the Scorpions came out in the first with an array of goals. Craig Macdonald scored his fifth goal in the last three games on a power play at the 3:31 mark.
New Mexico increased their lead when Erik Johnson scored his first goal in a Scorpions uniform when he redirected an Andrew Smale shot into the net. Late in the first period the Scorpions went back to the power play. Mitch Stephens was on the door step and scored with 10 seconds remaining in the opening period.
The Rage came out the better team in the second period. Just past the game's halfway mark, Daymen Rycroft scored a power play goal. Rocky Mountain made the game 3-2 when Nathan Rosychuk cut hard towards the net and slid it past goalie Andrew Martin at the 12:22 mark.
The teams played old time, hard hitting hockey in the third period. The lone goal came when Konrad Reeder converted on a penalty shot with 57.4 seconds remaining, sealing the Scorps victory.
The Scorpions head to the road for games Friday and Saturday night in Odessa. Both games can be heard on 1050 KTBL or seen for free on CHL Network starting at 6:05 p.m.
The next Scorpions home game is on Thursday, December 13 when the Scorpions host the Amarillo Gorillas. The puck will drop inside the Santa Ana Star Center at 7:15 p.m.
