
Korchinski nets OT winner for Bucks

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Odessa Jackalopes 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon in front of 3,406 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
Chris Korchinski broke free past the Jackalopes defense and scored on a breakaway just 58 seconds into overtime, giving the Bucks the come-from-behind win. It was Korchinski's 10th goal of the season. Serge Dube and Adam Rivet picked up the assists on the game-winner.
With the win the Bucks improve their CHL-leading record to 16-4-1 (33points).
Bucks goaltender Kevin Beech stopped 31 of 32 Jackalopes shots, to remain undefeated in net at 6-0. Beech had not faced a shot on goal since November 17th in Colorado.
The first period was scoreless as neither team lit the lamp. Both the Bucks and the Jackalopes attempted six shots in the period, with both goaltenders equal to the task. Bucks goalie Kevin Beech set aside all six âJacks shots, while Odessa goalie Alexandre Vincent stopped all six Laredo attempts. The Bucks killed off three Jackalopes power-plays in the period, while Laredo came up empty twice with the man advantage.
Odessa took a 1-0 lead at the 9:50 mark of the second period as Dominic Leveille scored on a penalty shot past Beech. It was Leveille's team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The Bucks tied the game up at the 16:14 mark of the second period. Rane Carngie scored his seventh goal of the season, as he sent a back-hander from the right circle off of his own rebound past Vincent. Adam Rivet and Serge Dube picked up assists on Carnegie's goal.
The Bucks killed off five Jackalopes power-plays in the second period, including a 2:46 power-play due to a high sticking double minor by Chris Korchinski. Odessa out shot Laredo in the second period 19-13
The Bucks outshot the Jackalopes in the third period 15-7, but Vincent made all the key saves earning Odessa (11-5-4) a point, and moving them into first place in the Southwest division.
Vincent stopped 34 pf the 36 Bucks shots to go to 7-4-1 in the Jackalopes net.
The Bucks will be off until next Friday when they will travel to face the Texas Brahmas for the first time in over a year, before traveling to Corpus Christi the next night to take on the Rayz. Laredo will host Arizona next Sunday at the LEC.
