Hounds snap losing streak with win over bees

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The Youngstown SteelHounds snap their three game losing streak with a 7-2 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Sunday afternoon.

Joel Irving put the Hounds up 1-0 after one period with his eighth goal of the season at 16:26.

The Hounds exploded for three goals in both the second and third periods and were 2-7 on the power play for the game. Chris Richards scored his first of two goals at just 49 seconds of the second period to make it 2-0 Youngstown. The Bees fought back as Jason Slusher scored his first of the season with a power play goal at 12:01 to make it a 2-1 game. The Bees were also 2-7 on the man advantage. Youngstown ran away after that as Bryan Lachapelle scored his second goal of the season at 15:34 to make it 3-1. Jeff Alcombrack finished the second period off with a power play goal at 18:26 to make it 4-1 Hounds.

In the third period Adam Smyth notched his fifth goal of the season at 2:24 to make it 5-1. Chris Richards scored his second of the game and seventh goal of the year at 4:22 to make it 6-1. Josh Bonar made it 6-2 for Rio Grande Valley with 8:55 to play. Eric Przepiorka became the first Hound to score 10 goals this season as he accomplished the feat at 15:45 to give the Hounds the 7-2 win.

Layne Sedevie recorded the victory in his first start as a SteelHound by making 26 saves on 28 shots. The rookie who spent time in the Mid Atlantic Hockey League with the Indiana Ice Miners and the CHL's Wichita Thunder is now 5-0-0 for his pro career.

The Hounds are now 14-4-1 (29 points) and now have a four point lead on the Mississippi RiverKings for first place in the Northeast Division. The Hounds are 1-2-0 on this road trip.

Youngstown will take on the RiverKings on both Friday and Saturday night with 8:05 starts for both games. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
