Summerside Storm News Release
(Summerside, PE) As Fans who came to Credit Union Place on a regular basis this season know, the Summerside STORM can put the ball in the basket as good as any team in the NBL this season.
Statistically, the STORM finished second in the league in team scoring during the regular season but it was only less than one point per game behind the London Lightning who finished first. Individually, the STORM have 3 players in the top 11 in scoring average this season in Brandon Robinson (2nd at over 21 points per game), Omari Johnston (4th at almost 20 points per game), and Greg Plummer (11th at almost 17 points per game). While these have been the big three this season, the STORM have some depth in the scoring department with players like Chris Cayole, Antoine Tisby, Josiah Turner, and Royce Parran all having big scoring games over the season.
One statistic from the regular season which should please STORM Fans, team assists per game. In this category the STORM finished second in the league at just under 23.50 per game and 938 total for the year. This is a stat that can be overlooked by the casual basketball fan but it pleases coaches and usually means your team looks for the extra pass for a better shot. It almost always means you're looking at an unselfish group of players.
The STORM open up their first ever playoff series in the NBL this coming Sunday afternoon at 2pm at Credit Union Place when the Windsor Express come calling. This best of five Semi-final sees game two being played on the Island Tuesday night at 7pm then moves to Windsor, Ontario for two. If a fifth and deciding game is needed it will be played back on PEI Tuesday April 2nd.
Tickets for Sundays game, in fact the whole series, are on sale at the Credit Union Place box office or online by visiting the STORM website. Fans are urged to purchase tickets early as to avoid line-ups on game day.
The STORM are out in the community tomorrow, visiting the Charlottetown Boys and Girls Club at 9am while taking in some curling action at the Canadian Seniors Curling Championship being hosted this week at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside.
