Summerside Storm News Release

CHARLOTTETOWN - The Summerside Storm is announcing that the team signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday with the Charlottetown Civic Center to play there beginning in the 2013-14 season.

"Our first responsibility as owners is to put the business in a position to succeed and sustain itself," said co-owner Duncan Shaw. "It was a difficult, complicated decision but we feel that in the end the circumstances in Charlottetown are the best situation for the Storm to succeed in Prince Edward Island."

The Storm emphasizes this is a pure business decision, a very challenging one made to ensure the Storm continues as part of the island community for many years to come. A Charlottetown base will provide increased access for corporate partnerships, which are critical to the team's survival. Being located in closer proximity to companies under the same ownership will help streamline operations while providing a more collaborative structure to serve the Storm's customers.

"We recognize and sincerely thank all who have supported us in any way during our first two seasons," said Shaw. "Many felt we wouldn't make it this far. While we understand and respect some will have difficulty understanding our decision, we will continue to do whatever possible to put the best product on the floor and honor our pledge to support communities from Tignish to Souris."
