
Miracles Lose Game 2 to the Mill Rats

(Saint John, NB) The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, remain winless at the Harbour Station against the Saint John Mill Rats in Game 2 of Round 1 of the NBL of Canada Playoffs with a final score of 126-99. The series is tied at 1-1.
The game began with Saint John making sure everyone knew whose house it was. The Miracles would stay close to the Mill Rats for the first half of the quarter before they would lose control of the ball game. The Mill Rats could not miss a shot in the first 12-minutes while the Miracles could not buy a basket. Saint John finished the first quarter with an unbelievable 18-34 lead over the Miracles.
The Miracles would start to come alive in the second quarter and attempt to shorten the Mill Rats lead. They would go on a 10-0 run to try and close the gap, 32-46. Moncton would outscore Saint John 31-25 in the quarter to finish the half continuing to trail but only by 10, 49-59.
The Miracles would start the third quarter once again with the intensity they are known for and quickly make it a 4-point game, which is the closest it would be in the second half. Saint John would not stay down for long and quickly answer back with a run of their own. With less than 2 minutes to play Devin Sweetney would go 2 for 2 from the line to make it a 73-85 ball game. At the end of the third quarter the Miracles would continue to trail 77-93.
Saint John would regain control of the scoreboard in a major way in the last 12 minutes of play. Moncton would push hard but could not overtake the momentum that Saint John had created. The Mill Rats would come out on top forcing the series to a third and deciding game.
Darrell Wonge led the way for the Miracles with 24 points. Sylvania Watkins followed with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Devin Sweetney added in with 18.
Melvin Council was the force for the Mill Rats with 37 points. Jerice Crouch was next with 27 points and Kenny Jones dropped 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Miracles Head Coach Dennis Truax was handed a technical foul.
Upcoming Community Events: The Miracles will play the third and deciding game of the series on Saturday, March 23rd at the Harbour Station in Saint John. Tip-off is 7pm. The winner of the series will take on the London Lightning in Round 2, which begins Monday, March 25th.
