Schwartz Finishes Triple Shy of Cycle, Ponies Fall in Series Finale at Erie

ERIE, PA - JT Schwartz was 4-for-4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-5) fell to the Erie Seawolves 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at UPMC Park. Binghamton finished 2-3 in the five-game series.
After Erie (5-3) took an early 3-0 lead, Binghamton clawed their way back into it starting with Schwartz' solo homer to right in the fourth inning to put Binghamton on the board. It was Schwartz' first home run of the season.
In the fifth, the Ponies struck together four straight hits. With two out, Alex Ramírez and Kevin Parada hit opposite-field singles. Jeremiah Jackson drove home Ramírez with an RBI single to left to cut the Ponies' deficit to 3-2. Ramírez finished 3-for-5 with a double and two singles. The next batter was Schwartz, who lined an RBI single back up the middle to drive home Parada and even the game at three.
In the bottom of the fifth, Erie responded as Brady Allen hit a two-out RBI triple down the right-field line off RHP Justin Jarvis (0-1) that put the SeaWolves ahead 4-3. Allen added a solo homer to right center field in the eighth that gave Erie a two-run advantage.
Schwartz, who had doubled in the second inning, came to the plate to leadoff the eighth inning a triple shy of the cycle. He belted a 3-1 pitch down the right-field line and reached second with his third extra-base hit of the afternoon.
The Rumble Ponies return home on Tuesday to open a six-game homestand against the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies Double-A Affiliate). First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. with the NYCM Insurance Pregame Show getting underway at 5:50 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
POSTGAME NOTES: The last player to hit for a cycle in Binghamton franchise history was Jeff McNeil on May 13, 2018 at Portland...McNeill and Josh Satin in 2011 are the only two players to hit for the cycle in the franchise' 32-year history...Ramírez is hitting a team-leading .367 and also leads the club with a .994 OPS over eight games... Jackson now has six RBI's over his last three games.
