Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys were kept in check on Tuesday night by Salem until Jonathan Schoop led off the bottom of the sixth. Schoop belted a solo shot off Anthony Ranaudo to put the Keys on the board. Frederick finished the frame with two runs and added two more in the seventh en route to a 4-3 win. Schoop finished the game 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. The win was Frederick's fifth consecutive and put them at 24 games over .500 on the season.
After Salem plated an unearned run in the first inning, both teams were kept off the scoreboard until the sixth. Bryce Brentz led the inning off with a deep drive to center field. Brentz's blast cleared all three tiers of signage and more importantly it put Salem in front by two runs.
Leading by a pair of runs, Anthony Ranaudo took the hill for his sixth inning of work. Frederick had mustered just four hits off Ranaudo through the first five innings. Jonathan Schoop, the owner of two of those four hits, stepped to the plate to lead off the home-half of the sixth. The 19-year-old hit a line drive shot over the left field fence. Schoop's first homer as a Key cut Frederick's deficit in half. Manny Machado followed with a Ground rule double to left-center. After Ranaudo walked Kipp Schutz, he was relieved by RHP Chris Martin. Miguel Abreu put down a sac bunt which moved up Machado and Schutz and then Dale Mollenhauer tied the game up with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Nathan Moreau exited Tuesday's game after six innings. Moreau allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out three and walking two.
Chris Martin remained on the hill for Salem in the seventh. With two out and Brian Ward on second, Jonathan Schoop singled to center to bring home Ward. Schoop's second RBI of the night put the Keys on top, 3-2. Manny Machado then brought home Schoop on a RBI triple off the wall in center field.
Machado's proved to be critical as Dan Butler hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth.
With Frederick ahead by one entering the ninth, Sean Gleason closed out the game for his league-best 29th save of the year.
Schoop, who finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate, flashed the leather in the top of the ninth. With one out, Shannon Wilkerson hit a sharp line drive to the right side of the infield. Schoop ranged to his left and made a full-extension grab for the second out of the frame.
Kenny Moreland notched his first victory of the year after he worked two innings of relief.
On Wednesday night, the Keys will try for their sixth straight win when they turn to RHP Ryohei Tanaka (7-3, 2.96). Tanaka's counterpart will be LHP Chris Hernandez (9-5, 2.72). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
