School Day Game Features IceHogs and Moose

Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs (28-11-5-4) welcome the Manitoba Moose (13-7-4-5) for the first game between the two squads this season in a special 10:30 a.m. start at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

The meeting marks the annual "School Day Game" and is sold out. Students from Rockford Public Schools who completed a hockey-related workbook provided by the team will fill the arena. Tickets are still available for Friday's 7 p.m. contest versus Manitoba and the rest of this season's home games and can be purchased online, by calling 815-968-5222, at the BMO Harris Bank Center box office, or at any Ticketmaster location including Walmart.

This morning's contest will be broadcast live locally on WIFR's Justice Network on 23.3 and online at AHLLive.com. Television coverage kicks off at 10 a.m. with the IceHogs Warm Up pre-game show. Center Mark McNeill is riding a three-game goal streak and has points in 12 of his last 13 (7g-7a). McNeill ranks tied for third overall on the team with 26 points (12g-14a).

Michael Leighton enters the contest ranked in the top five goaltenders in the AHL in goals against average (4th, 2.26), save percentage (5th, .924), wins (2nd, 24), shutouts (t-3rd, 4), minutes (2nd, 2123:32), and saves (2nd, 972).

Rockford will play Manitoba three more times this season. The Moose currently have the worst goal differential in the AHL, having allowed 64 more goals than they have scored. Over the last five games, however, Manitoba has averaged 4.2 goals per game.

Rookie center Nic Petan has led the way for Manitoba in February with six points in as many games (5g-1a). Petan ranks third on the Moose with 26 points (8g-18a) through 34 games played this season.

Next Home Game: Friday, February 19 vs. Manitoba Moose: Contest begins at 7 p.m. BMO Harris Bank will be giving away a free pair of socks to the first 2,500 fans in attendance, and the IceHogs encourage fans to bring new pairs of socks to donate to Project Undershare. Fans who donate socks will receive a ticket voucher to a pre-selected game.
