Schenn Wins WHL Fan's Choice Award

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League is pleased to announce the overall winner of the 2007-08 Boston Pizza WHL ‘Fan's Choice' Award is rookie forward Brayden Schenn of the Brandon Wheat Kings. This season the Western Hockey League and Boston Pizza partnered up to create ‘The BOSTON PIZZA ‘Fan's Choice' WHL Player of the Week. Each week one player nominee from each WHL Division was selected; fans then had the opportunity to vote on their favorite at www.whl.ca. On Friday voting would close and the player receiving the most fan votes was named the Boston Pizza ‘Fan's Choice' WHL Player of the Week.

With Schenn receiving the most votes at the end of the WHL regular season, he has won a 42" Plasma Television and Boston Pizza Party. He was nominated twice during the WHL regular season and on both occasions received more than enough votes to be named the Boston Pizza ‘Fan's Choice' WHL Player of the Week.

During his rookie campaign Schenn scored 28 goals and 71 points, all while maintain a plus minus rating of +22, good enough to lead all WHL rookies in scoring. He recently was named the WHL Eastern Conference finalist for the WHL Rookie of the Year Award, along with Western Conference nominee, from the Vancouver Giants, Evander Kane.

Schenn, a 16 year old from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, spent last season with the Saskatoon Contacts in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League. He will be eligible at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Schenn and the Wheat Kings return to the ice Friday night when they play host to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in game five of their WHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. Brandon trails the series three games to one.
