Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Beloit Snappers are proud to announce that this year's Stateline Player of the Year Award goes to Hononegah Senior Ryan Scarpetta.

Scarpetta has played varsity baseball in every season since he was a freshman at Hononegah where he was a starting pitcher, along with playing each corner infield position. Scarpetta has signed a baseball scholarship to play at Valparaiso University starting in the fall. In his last two years at Hononegah, Scarpetta combined to hit.377 with 78 RBI's and slammed 11 home runs, while only striking out 20 times in 265 plate appearances.

In his sophomore and junior year Scarpetta earned First Team All-Conference and was ranked in the "Top Ten in 2010" in the State of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game USA.

During the 2009 season Scarpetta went 6-2 with an ERA of 1.93 while striking out 66 batters and walking only 20 in 46 innings of work. In the eight games Scarpetta started he managed to throw three shutouts and had eight or more strikeouts in his 6 of those starts.

Ryan comes from a good baseball blood line as his Uncle Dan Scarpetta played for the Beloit Brewers in `82-`83 and in `85 and '88. His cousin Cody Scarpetta played for the Wisconsin TimberRattlers in 2009 as a pitcher and his brother Brett was drafted twice, once by the Chicago White Sox and once by the Atlanta Braves.

Ryan will be presented with the award at the Snappers annual Hot Stove Banquet on Monday, February 1st which will be held at the Beloit Country Club, with doors opening at 5:45PM. Tickets for the Winter Hot Stove Banquet are $30 for adults and $25 for children. The ticket includes a plated dinner, with dessert, catered by the Country Club of Beloit and a box seat ticket voucher good for the 2010 Snappers regular season.
