
Scalabrini, Mattioni earn Northern League honors

Third baseman Pat Scalabrini of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and righthanded reliever Nick Mattioni of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have been selected as the Northern League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for June 7-13, the league office announced today.
Scalabrini, the Rawlings/Daktronics Player of the Week, led the league with a .519 average and tied for first with 10 runs, 14 hits, five doubles, and a .552 on-base percentage. The 27-year-old righthanded batter also had the second highest slugging percentage at 1.037, tied for second with three homers, and drove in seven runs.
For the season, Scalabrini is batting .371, sixth best in the Northern League, with a league best 15 doubles, 5 homers, and 22 rbi in 23 games.
Mattioni, the Rawlings/Daktronics Pitcher of the Week, was 1-0 with three saves and pitched 6.1 scoreless innings in his four appearances as Fargo-Moorhead went 6-1 for the week. Mattioni, 25, allowed just three hits with no walks and had five strikeouts. He is 1-2, 2.81 with four saves, tied for third in the league, in 11 appearances with the RedHawks in 2004.
Other players nominated for the weekly award were outfielder Steve Foley of Fargo-Moorhead, outfielder Mike Brown of Gary, outfielder Jermaine Allensworth and IF-OF-C Josh Loggins of Joliet, outfielder Bryan Warner of Lincoln, outfielder Tonayne Brown of St. Paul, and infielder Chris Weekly of Schaumburg. Other pitchers nominated include Tony O'Donnell of Gary, Rich Hyde and Brian Mazone of Joliet, Adam Springston of Lincoln, Anthony Boughner of Schaumburg, J.D. Scholten of Sioux City, and Wes Faust of Sioux Falls.
