Savvis Center, Steamers host MISL doubleheader this Friday

ST. LOUIS, April 25, 2005 - Savvis Center will be the home for the start of the 2005 Major Indoor Soccer League playoffs this Friday, April 29, when the St. Louis Steamers play host to the Milwaukee Wave at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of an MISL semifinal doubleheader here in St. Louis. In the first game Friday at Savvis Center, the Cleveland Force will play the Philadelphia Kixx in a 5 p.m. match.

Tickets for Friday's action are $18 each - admission is good for both games - and available now at the Savvis Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or by calling TicketMaster at 314-241-1888. Discounts for Steamers season ticket holders, as well as St. Louis Blues season ticket holders, are available by calling 314-622-BLUE. Group discounts are also available by calling 314-622-BLUE.

Fans are encouraged to "Paint The Town Orange" on Friday in tribute to the hometown orange-and-blue Steamers. Savvis Center doors will open at 4 p.m. on Friday with the first 2,500 fans wearing orange receiving an orange Steamers wristband and temporary tattoo sticker. Also, the first 500 kids ages 16 and under will receive a Steamers mini soccer ball.

Adult fans can celebrate the happy hour spirit at Savvis Center with championship drink specials all afternoon and evening. And for all fans, hot dogs are only 50 cents from 4 to 7 p.m., popcorn is only $1 through both games and all Steamers merchandise will be discounted 50 percent throughout the doubleheader. Entertainment, including various live music performances, will be featured in and around Savvis Center all day and night.

"We're expecting a ‘final four' environment for indoor soccer that promises to be electric and the perfect way for sports fans of all ages to end their work or school week," said Steamers president Michael Hetelson. "If you work downtown, stay downtown and wear your orange to Savvis Center, you won't be sorry.

The Steamers, who finished the 2004-05 regular season on Saturday with a 20-20 record and earned the fourth and final playoff berth in the MISL, will travel to Milwaukee for Game 2 of the two-game "Golden Goal" series on Sunday, May 1, at 1:05 p.m. Friday night will be the first time since 2001 the Steamers will play host to a playoff game. The last time the Steamers played host to a postseason contest in St. Louis city was in 1986 when they played the San Diego Sockers at the St. Louis Arena. Savvis Center will also play host the final game of the MISL Championship Series on Saturday, May 21, at 6 p.m.

"The Steamers have had great success throughout the season and we look to carry that success over into the playoffs," said Hetelson. "Bringing the Championship Series Finals to St. Louis along with the first two games of the semifinal matches reaffirms our commitment to returning indoor soccer to downtown St. Louis. We are also committed to providing a first-class entertainment experience to the great sports community here in St. Louis now and into the future."

The Championship Series Semifinal and Final rounds are a two-game "home and home" series. If the teams split their two-games, an overtime period with a "Golden Goal" will determine the series winner. The 2005 MISL Championship Series Finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee at 8 p.m. (Game One) and Saturday, May 21 at Savvis Center at 6 p.m. (Game Two). Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
