Chicago Stars FC News Release
CHICAGO - The Chicago Red Stars have acquired Savannah McCaskill from Sky Blue FC in exchange for the club's highest first-round pick and the club's second-round natural pick from Utah Royals FC* in the 2020 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, the clubs announced today.
"We were looking for another player with different attacking qualities than what we currently have to continue to improve our attacking options," said head coach Rory Dames. "We believe Savannah checked the boxes we were looking for to improve both our team on the field and our locker room."
McCaskill, 22, has played in 26 games since entering the league last season. The second overall pick in the 2018 College Draft by the Boston Breakers, she was claimed by Sky Blue FC in the Dispersal Draft with the second pick. The forward had a breakout rookie campaign, notching three goals and three assists.
During the offseason, McCaskill would take her talents to the Australian W-League to play with Sydney FC, where she played with fellow Red Stars player Danielle Colaprico. McCaskill led the Sydney side to victory in the Grand Finale as she tallied two goals to secure the win over Perth Glory FC.
McCaskill made her debut with the U.S. Women's National Team on January 21, 2018, during a friendly against Denmark. The forward would be named to the 2018 SheBelieves Cup, where she'd appear in all three games for the U.S. WNT.
